Twmpath - Village Hall - October 28th 06
Carreg Las Ceilidh Band entertained a full house in the Millennium Hall on 28th October, despite many rival local attractions nearby. A jolly good evening it turned out to be too. This Twmpath was supported by the "Night out Scheme".

August Bank Holiday Walk
The August Bank Holiday walk this year took us out of our community and into Llanboidy. We met up on a bright but very breezy day at Braffle Cross Road. We were all entertained by Betty before leaving in her inimitable style, with jokes and promises of tea on return. This was a walk with views in all directions. We set off east, then turned back north westerly, and every gateway showed us what fine scenery we have on our door steps.

There is a path here that descends to Login, but with a two hour limit that was a walk for another day, so we returned to the cross roads, and then went south. Tavernspite then came into view, and also the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons on the far horizon. We had planned to cut across the footpath due west, but were thwarted by an impenetrable thicket and fence, so we returned back to the cross road again. John Spencer's excellent photos to be fair do show what we enjoyed - pity about the wind mind.

The Margam trip

Sunday August 6th saw the trip to Margam Park. A nearly full executive bus from Jones Login, and driven by no lesser person than the Managing Director Endaf guaranteed we would have the finest air conditioned coach in the fleet and the best of drivers. We were not disappointed. Almost to time we left on a rather murky morning, with a forecast that was as wide open as any book, "misty, sunny periods and maybe rain."

1We arrived without incident, having past by the Maes on the Eisteddfod site at Filendre on the way.

We saw sun on the way, but the misty conditions prevailed at first at Margam Park. The bus soon emptied and our party was soon completely dispersed in the vast spaces of the park. The deer herd were very popular, if a bit difficult to track down. Gradually the sun took charge and most of the afternoon was under blue skies and very warm sunshine.

A wonderful site with some terrific assets like the orangry, walled garden and lakes. However it lacked a bit of sparkle, and one of us commented, "looked just a shade tired".

Many thanks to Josie for doing the arranging, and Endaf for the transport.
